End of Life for Internet Explorer 8,9 and 10

Posted 12 January 2016

Microsoft today has announced they are no longer supporting Internet Explorer versions 8,9 and 10.  Read full statement from Microsoft here.

What this means is that after January 12, 2016, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates (or technical support) for Internet Explorer 8, 9 and 10.

What browser am I currently using?

If you are unsure - visit this link.

Should I upgrade if I am using IE 8,9 or 10?

In an ideal world - absolutely yes.  Having an unsupported / unpatched browser is a very bad idea.

However things you need to consider

  • You will need to talk to your IT company first.
  • Consider and discuss if  there any legacy systems that you use (these may not work in new browsers)
  • If your Content Management System (CMS) is old, upgrades may be required (by your web developer) so these work in newer browsers (if your site is built with us - please contact us to discuss options).

Browser upgrade options

You can upgrade to either Internet Explorer 11, or Microsoft Edge.

Other browsers you could also consider are Chrome (our favourite here at TMD) or Firefox.
